Pure Green Living What treatments are there for liver failure?

Question by Pepto90: What treatments are there for liver failure?
I am doing research on liver failure in people who overdose on acetaminophen. I was hoping I might find out what some of the treatments are, how long the person has to live without treatment, and what some of the signs and symptoms are.

Soon after the overdose things like charcoal can be given to mop up the drug, as opposed to stomach pumping which is what used to be done mostly.

Sometimes a drug can be given as an “antidote” but usually the damage is done.

The liver repairs itself well, but in severe cases, transplantation is possible. New studies show, that, because of its powerful regeneration properties, its possible to just transplant one of the 2 main lobes of the liver, in order to leave one for the donor and one for the person receiving it. However it’s quite risky to do this as neither one has a full liver, and this type of surgery is still in its early stages.

Signs and symptoms probably include jaundice, loss of consciousness and confusion.
