I live southwest of Austin, and so my favorite native plant nurseries are: Barton Springs Nursery on Bee Caves Rd. in Westlake; The Natural Gardner on Old Bee Caves Rd. in Oak Hill; and Texas Grown Plants off 290, west of the Y in Oak Hill. Barton Springs Nursery has a great selection of native and naturalizing plants at good prices, but it’s easy to miss when you are driving by. They will also try to find species that you request. The Natural Gardener also has an excellent assortment. Texas Grown Plants is the only nursery where I have ever seen TX Leather Flower (aka Scarlet Clematis). They were not selling them when I was there; they may have been growing them to collect seed for more plants.

Balsam Gourd produces a tomato-like fruit from a small yellow flower. Another vine, Passiflora foetida, produces similar red fruits from blue and white passion flowers, They both have similar leaves, and are occasionally confused. Passiflora foetida has a lacey tendril completely surrounding the green fruit. Below are links to pictures.
