Why are green houses called green houses as all the one’s I’ve ever seen are painted white?

Huh??? Green houses are clear, glass or plastic. They are called green houses because the trap the warmth of the sun and allow the plants to grow/turn green even in the winter. Green house gasses are said to do the same, supposedly causing global warming.
