Pure Green Living How can i be vegan when i dont like sweets?

Question by John: How can i be vegan when i dont like sweets?
So I’m trying to be vegan for not so much the animal cruelty thing, but rather the health benefits that go along with being vegan. I know that a good vegan diet is mostly based on fruits and vegetables and maybe a little bit of starches, but the problem for me is i don’t really like fruits because they are sweet, and I really like salty foods which aren’t that good for you. will i learn to live with them or am i stuck? Also, i would rather do fruit based rather than mostly starch based just because its supposedly better for you, but i plan to do some of both. any comments and or suggestions are greatly appreciated! thanks in advanced.

I think stick with veganism and eat a vegetable-based diet, and then if you want move towards a fruit-based diet.

I actually don’t like a lot of fruit, but I’ve fed my kids a lot of fruit from birth, so now they actually really like fruits, and will take strawberries over lollies. So they eat it, but me? Not too much. Enough to stay a bit healthy, but not really a wide variety. Basically, they were like that from birth, and have stuck with it.

The big difference is that with fruit, even though the sugars are wrapped up in fiber and aren’t really anything like refined sugar, you do have to eat more often than if you ate mostly vegetables and pure starches, and the other thing is that you do have to make sure you eat enough starchy fruits, like bananas and dates etc to get enough energy, otherwise most of your food will be water and you’ll need to be constantly eating, or else gorging on nuts and seeds for their fats, and it’s still important to eat a lot of green leafy vegetables every day, which def offset the sweetness.

I guess you can train your pallate anyway you like. Maybe start with smoothies that have spinach in them, a banana and some berries?

What do you think? Answer below!
