Question by <3: What is the most eco-friendly, cheapest, and durable material ?
At school, we are building robotic arms and they want us to write what the most eco-friendly material is. The arm must beable to transport springs (for Meritor company); so it must be strong.
Don’t worry, we’re making it out of wood, but we need to know for the “real world”

Surprisingly, wood is extremely strong and durable. It’s stronger than steel in both tensional and compressional strain, is much lighter, and fairly cheap. I don’t know how eco-friendly it is, in regards to actually cutting the trees for lumber, but you don’t have to worry about the smelting process for steel, which is far more polluting.
You might actually think about ways you could use wood in the real world for such an arm. You also might try experimenting with different shapes, as opposed to different materials.
