To begin, I would suggest a definition for “living green,” as follows: “To live in accordance with nature’s laws of healthy competition and respect for all life.” Now, for the questions:
1) People should live green because the entire community of life will collapse if we carry on as we do today.
2) Survival, not just for humans, but for all life on Earth. And evolution. The Earth would be able to develop higher life forms if natural selection (as opposed to human-caused extinction) were encouraged once again.
3) Considering the alternative, it’s worth it.
4) It hasn’t. There are still more narrow-minded consumerists in the world than there are enlightened human beings.
5) Considering my answer to question 2, yeah.
6) Opened my eyes, made me fear for the future generations, encouraged me to explore potential avenues for, well, “saving the world.”
7) When I was 17, Pope John Paul II visited my country and I saw how much solid, liquid and sanitary waste religious gatherings can generate. They’re worse than rock concerts. I started picking up litter and reducing my purchase of packaging-heavy products. I can keep going on this thread but I have to work, too.
8) Less than 10. Considering how things stood 10 years ago, I think that’s a lot.
9) You have to want it. And nothing makes you want it more than seeing how bad things can get. So a jolting shocking experience is always useful. Of course, some people have tougher stomachs than others.
10) Don’t use plastic bags. Don’t buy packaging-heavy products. Walk more. Make your home energy efficient. Start gardening. Compost. Have your own worm bin. Advocate for recycling to be obsolete!
11) Helps me sleep better at night.
12) See answer to question 2.
13) Most of the benefits are long-term, but yeah, walking is good for you and avoiding processed foods does wonders to your health.
14) Most people are comfortable and ignorant. We’ve been raised to think that the world can take all the shit we can give it. So why bother? Also, most people are too concerned about their personal “struggle” to care about what’s going on beyond their homes, schools, malls or offices.
15) I want a better life. If not for me, at least for the next generations.
