Question by : Canadien wanting to live in the us?
So,I came to the US in 1996 when I was 6 through family and stayed until 2004. They sent me to my grandparents in Africa until 2008… My aunt (who brought me to the US took my green card and my social security number ) .. Then I was sent to Canada (where I am a citizen). I went to the states and visited my sister for 2 1/2 months. while at the border they told me I still had my green card on file and to just file for a new one as if I had “lost” it, when I got to the US realize that it cost so much money to get my green card… and went back to canada (to work)… now I came back to the states (atlanta) to visit my sister for xmas breaks but at the border they gave me hell and said that they think since I have a green card that i’m trying to live in the US (They said if I’m planning to go to the US for that reason that they wouldn’t let me get by.. so i told them i was visiting.. they told me the only way you can get through is if you cancel your green card ..so i did). I’m homeless and jobeless currently in Canada (the reason why i’m in atlanta right now) and I just want to live here with my sister (legally- and able to work).
So, the question is…
1) Can I apply for my green card (again) this time through my sister?
2) Do I have to be in Canada to apply?
3) My sister and her husband are starting a family business and want me to work for them (they only want to hire family no outside help) Could she sponsor me for a work visa? (even though I don’t have a degree… They’re opening a daycare and a clothing store)
Any advice would help..please no sarcastic comments!!
