Green Home Plans How safe are the L.A. Green and Blue Lines?

Question by cicerosghost: How safe are the L.A. Green and Blue Lines?
My wife and I are planning on moving out to L.A. soon and I am considering using the Metro to get to and from work. I will be working downtown right near Metro Center, so it works out nicely.

My main question is about the safety of the Green and Blue lines. We were thinking of moving to South Bay, so I thought a Green/Blue transfer to work, and a Blue/Green transfer coming home would do the trick. Only problem is that I have a job sometimes requiring late hours and I worry a bit about the trip home. Any insights on this? Thanks for your help!

I used to take the blue and green lines to work from Dominguez Hills (Del Amo Station) to El Segundo (El Segundo Blvd Station). I did that for about a year and a half and didn’t have too much trouble. The only times I’m on the metro late is when I go to Staples Center for events (there is a station right across the street). Oddly enough, I’ve never had any trouble on my late trips, although I always had someone else with me. As for the day trips to and from work, there was a couple of issues, one scary homeless guy came on and shouted at an invisible enemy for a while and a time or two obvious gangsters came on but they didn’t bother anyone.

No place has a “no-problem” guarantee, but for the number of times I ride the metro, it seems relatively safe. I’d suggest that you keep aware of your surroundings and don’t act like an idiot and you should be okay.
