Apartment living suggests a small space. I would be certain to purchase furnishings that have dual purposes.

Select dining charis that can be used as extra seating to match your living room. Pick two of the charis to be captain chairs (with arms) and cover the seats with complimentary fabric that matches the living room.

Select a dining table that has leaves or fold down sides to use when company comes. Leaving more day to day space for you.

Select a coffee table that has a bottom shelf or buy a chest for extra storage.

Buy a chair with a matching ottoman that has storage underneath or an ottoman you can put a tray on to use as an extra table when not used for extra seating.

Use a second hand dresser as your tv stand and load the drawers with CD’s, magazines and what not so your place is not cluttered. You can paint the dresser any color.

Select furniture such as a couch and chairs that do not have skirts so light and air flow through which give the illusion of more space. If you select a solid color couch, you can accessorize with colored pillows, rugs and curtains. A solid couch will move nicely into any future living quarters.

Have shelving on the walls instead of the floors to make the square footage appear larger. Use wicker or canvas bins in complimentary colors to provide tidy storage.

Don’t load the place with tons of tiny things. Make an impact with less furniture that is of a good size without being overbearing. Buy furniture with shelves and drawers for storage. Think multi usage.

Decorate with only the things you love and get rid of anything that is not useful.

Select a color pallet that can grow and move with you as you live your life. Example: spice colors with shades of red, rust, gold, green, tan and brown. This way, all furniture and accessories for every room can be interchangeable in the future.

If you tend to eat in front of the TV in the living room, purchase plates that will look good in the living room AND the kitchen/dining. You may want to build up a basic white dishware/serving set and use napkins, tablecloths and place mats to add variety in color.

Put good money first in the purchase of mattress and a couch. Because these two items are important to be of quality and comfort.

I hope this has been helpful. And, remember, only bring things into your home that you LOVE, so when you walk into your home you will be exactly where you want to be. HOME.
