Question by Ninjasaur: Benefits of disproving something as Eco-friendly?
I’m doing a science project that would test whether “green” laundry detergents are less toxic than regular detergent, and I was just wondering what could come out of me proving that eco-friendly laundry detergents aren’t as eco-friendly as many claim ?

The only benefits would be in correcting a wrong and in relating the truth of a matter. Something that should be considered is if a product is offered as being “Eco-Friendly”, then, perhaps, it is only in a comparative sense of the other products that would accomplish the same purpose and by what degree. An example would be that natural gas is more “Eco-Friendly” than is an open pit coal mine. While this is true, is natural gas really “Eco-Friendly” when you consider its own form of environmental dangers? And, also, which is more “Eco-Friendly”? An open pit coal mine or the Canadian Tar Sands? One of these may be able to claim being more “Eco-Friendly” than the other, but are either of them actually “Eco-Friendly”?
“Toxicity”, is another point all together. Toxicity can be more easily measured and quantified. Yet, you still must ask as being toxic to who and to what different species?
