Question by James Ham: What physics topics are related to alternative energy?
I’m just curious what sorts of physics topics scientists and engineers working on alternative energies would be familiar with. Thanks!

One that im interested in is thermal nuclear fusion. This is the process the sun uses to create its enormous amount of energy.
What happens is two hydrogen atoms collide, and under certain conditions (temperature, pressure) a massive nuclear explosion occurs, the only waste left behind from this is helium.
The fuel for this is in abundance all over the world, this process would use water for fuel, as water has hydrogen in it and is abundant.
Currently in the UK only about 500 million dollars a year is being spent on this research, while over 500 billion dollars is being spent on ring tones – you have to wonder were our priorities lay?
