Question by tessaspor: What is the perfect small town to live in like the one in footloose or the new show heart of dixie?
I would like to live in a town that is modernized to an extent and that is still stuck in the old ways. Also a town that is clean and everyone has a strong accent. I would like to raise a family in the roots where my family has came from.

One of my favorite towns that I visit frequently is Bell Buckle, TN (population 450)… It has a ton of Victorian homes, there are many festivals, people play music on their front porch, there are “see rock city” birdhouses on every porch, the cafe’ serves pulled pork, corn bread, and pecan pie… It is a great Southern town. What sets it apart is it is the home of the Webb School (world renowned) so many teachers, artists, and other eccentric folks live there along with farmers, skilled laborers, etc… Tennessee’s poet laureate lives there! I would say towns that are runners up are: Lynchburg, TN… Cottontown, TN… Murfreesboro, TN… Sunbright, TN… Monteagle, TN… and little Viola, TN! Other towns I have heard of but not visited: Eufala, AL… Madison, GA… Eureka Springs, Arkansas… Jasper, AL… Micanopy, FL…
If you like small Southern towns and Southern culture I would recommend these movies: Fried Green Tomatoes, Doc Hollywood, Benjamin Button, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Driving Miss Daisy and GET LOW. Also, read ANY book by Kathryn Tucker Windham… Her stories of growing up in small town Alabama in the 1920′s are magical.
