Green Living Ideas Q&A: How hard is it to keep a green anole lizard as a pet?

Question by Keira Olive: How hard is it to keep a green anole lizard as a pet?
I’m thinking about getting a green anole lizard as a pet but I’m not sure how hard they are to take care of. I’ve had a turtle for amost a year now and he’s really easy to take care of, so I was wondering if an anole would be similar. Also I wanted to know how much approximately the habitat would cost including all the lights and heating systems and such. If anyone could help me out that would be great!

They aren’t hard to care for, but they aren’t too rewarding of a pet since you can’t really handle them too easily.

Habitat costs could run $ 80-150 depending on where you get the items.
List of things you need…
-10 gallon tank or larger
-secure lid (sliding screen lids with locks are best)
-heat lamp with 60W heat bulb (though the size of wattage depends on the overall temperature in the room)
-2 thermometers (or just one temp gun)
-1 hygrometer
-plenty of branches and plants (real or fake) to allow for climbing and hiding spots
-substrate…I recommend EcoEarth or Bed-a-Beast
-crickets/mealworms/dubia roaches (most only eat crickets, but you should provide variety)
-calcium with and without vitamin d3 and multivitamin supplements to dust the food with
-5.0 UVB light that stretches the length of the cage.
