Question by gwyn29: Can beets be a late crop in the upper southeast region?
We live in upper southeast region of the US& we just wondered if beets could be a late season crop ? Our beets for 2 years haven’t done well at all when planted in the spring. We are very disappointed because we love pickling our own beets! Any pointers on how to grow beets better?

I’m in AZ and I’m planting them this weekend. Your extension service may have some tips.
I plant them about three times as densely as necessary and then when they are 4-6″ high, I thin toward an ultimate spacing goal, but I have salad greens.
6-8 weeks later when they’re a foot high, I prune to the final spacing and have stir-fry goodies. You know the drill after that
Wach for mites!
Good Luck
