Green Living Blogs What color should I paint my walls?

Question by Anonymous: What color should I paint my walls?
Hello Everyone!

I need some advice, please. We are finally moving into a new house and right now it’s painted the most God-awful colors. That aside, I’m trying to figure out what color(s) to paint it now, and I’m really struggling. I, for one, am a lover of bright, clean white with a little gloss to it (or a lot) – kind of gallery style. I just love white rooms in magazines and on blogs. They look so light and airy and fresh, in my opinion. But on the other hand, we’ve been renting for five years. I’ve been looking at white (albeit not pretty white) walls for five years and haven’t been able to do a darned thing about it. I secretly harbor a fear that white walls will be boring. The alternative would be a soft (but not pastel) green.

To give a little background, our primary color is green. I have some bright green throw pillows on the sofa. The curtains I’ve bought are beige with darker green vines and leaves. Our sofa is a very light gray-beige color, and I have recently purchased a natural-fiber jute rug for the living room. We also have a very vibrant green armchair. So… I like green. But I love white walls. And I plan on painting the kitchen cabinets and all of the interior doors a medium gray. So what do you think? White or green on the walls?

If I were you I would put your furniture in the room once the walls are primed [ assuming you are useing a white primer] see if you like it, if it’s too much white then go for the green. However I think with all the green you already have it may be too much. Or do 2 walls in white where most of the furniture will be and do 2 accent walls in green. [Or any combo you think you would like ] You may also want to consider a natural jute color for the walls since your rug is that color then add a throw and some pillows in the same color.

As for the gray …that you may regret the trend on gray is on it’s way out the door. It will make your kitchen look dingy and dirty…I would go with a different color for the cabinets. [My friend made a mistake and painted her kitchen cabinets grey she also did the dinningroom...what a disaster...it looked horriable and yes she said she thought the kitchen looked dingy and dirty, it didn't take long to repaint both rooms...company were uncomfortable in both grey rooms and she had tons of leftovers- it was the color of the rooms...]
