Green Living Articles What is the best way to start a salt water aquarium?

Question by Bruno: What is the best way to start a salt water aquarium?
I have been interested for a while in creating one, but I’m unsure the best way to get started and educate myself on the subject. I’ve read a few articles online and I’ve learned it takes several months just to create the right ecosystem before introducing actual fish. How does a total noob get started with their first salt water tank? Thanks!

Read, read, read! Educate yourself about every single fish before buying it. Remember to always get a second opinion. Only get one fish at a time, let it acclimate for a week or two before adding more. Don’t buy super expensive fish first in case they die!

I reccomend the forums on saltwaterfish.com

I’m on there and the info is AMAZING! Seriously.

Also good starter fish:

Green/Blue Chromis
Percula Clownfish
Bicolor Blenny
They all get along well, at least in my tank!

And PLEASE do not get a bucket and fill it with salt from your kitchen! That is not how it works, the fish will die instantly! You need special saltwater from a local fish store and testing kits and live rock and sand before any fish. And do not go to Petco or Petsmart.
