People probably won’t be familiar with the deck you bought. People usually make there own decks from decks such as yours, or they make it from scratch. And choose what they want to put in it. I don’t have time to go over everything as I have to watch my sister as she trick-or-treats. I’m 19 by the way…anyways…When you wish to battle someone elses deck, you each sit across from each other.

You each shuffle your deck, then you cut eachothers deck.

Now you each draw 7 cards from your deck.

Now, flip a coin to see who goes first. The winner of the flip decides if he/she wants to go first or second. (That’s how we do it)

Now player 1 goes first. Player 1 only uses the 7 cards he drew originaly on his first turn because he goes first. However, player 2 will get to use 8 cards on his first turn because whenever it becomes your turn yoou draw 1 card from your deck.

Now, in magic the gathering, there are creatures, enchantments, artifacts, and lands. Look at an artifact,creature,or enchantment card. In the upper right of the card you will see a symbol, or multiple symbols. These symbols represent the mana cost. There are 5 different colors in magic, and then there is colorless. There is blue, red black, green, white.Now each color is represented by that color and each color has there own symbol.

Black=Skull
White=Sun
Red=fire
Blue=water droplet
green=tree

Now say you have a card with the mana cost of just one fire mana. That means it costs that much. Every turn you can lay down one land. Each land can either 1 of the five clors and there are also some colorless. swamp=black, island=blue, mountain=red, plains=white, forest=green. So on your turn if you have a mountain in your hand you may put it down.Now, tap the mountain(land) and it generates 1 red mana into your mana pool. Now tapping is simply turning the card so it is horizontal, where as you put it into play vertically. Once you tap a mountain which generates 1 red mana into your mana pool you can use the red mana to pay for a mana cost. Now the mana stays in your mana pool until the end of your turn, where it will then,if it is still there and not used will do mana burn to you. So use the mana that you generate. You can’t keep gathering it up, unless a certain card lets you do otherwise.

Say you see a mana cost of the number 2 in a grey circle and then you see a red fire symbol. that means the mana cost is 3. you need to pay 2 colorless, which means you can choose whichever mana you want to use, and you have to pay one red mana.

Now creature cards can do certain abilities, there are hundreds of different abilities. One creature may say tap-destroy target creature, or tap-deal 1 damage to target creature or player. Each player starts with 20 life. Now at the bottom of a creature card, you will see two numbers. Example: 2/3, this is the creatures power and toughness. The first number (2 is the the power) where (3 is the toughness) It’s basically power/toughness or Damage/life. You can attack with your creatures, but you can only attack the other player, no their creatures directly, unless an ability lets you do otherwise. Now say you attack a player with a 1/2, that player has no creatures out so they can’t block it. You automatically deal 1 damage to that player. since the creature has a power of 1. Now say you do it again, attack with the 1/2 on the next turn, and now the other player has a 2/2 creature out. He will block the 1/2 creature with his 2/2 creature. The creatures deal there damage to eachother, and your creature wil die, but his will live. Why? his creature did 2 damage to your creature, but yours only did 1 damage because it is a 1/2, where his is a 2/2. There is no rule that says you have to attack. It’s smart to keep some blockers if your opponent has creatures too. Now say you attack with a 2/1 and the other player blocks with a 3/1. In this case, both creatures will die. Because they each get killed by the other creatures power(damage). Once a creature is killed, it goes into your graveyard, which is located on the side of your library. Your library is your main deck. they call decks libraries in magic the gathering. Because everything is considered a spell.

Now this is a lot of basic stuff, but the real way to learn is vs. another player who already knows how to play. Unfortunately I must go now.

Hope you learn how to play well, and have fun playing mtg
