Question by Eire: Citizenship after being on a marriage related Green Card?
I obtained a Green Card through marriage almost 3 years ago & I would like to apply for citizenship, I have a few questions –
1) What is the process for applying for citizenship?
2) When can I apply, exactly 3 years from when I became a citizen or before?
3) Is there any further proof of relationship required?
Thanks!

If you have been a Green Card holder for at least 3 years and also have been married to the same U.S. citizen spouse for 3 years and live together with him in harmony under one roof, you can become a U.S. citizen. You are allowed to mail off your N-400 application up to 90 days earlier, but I would advise you to wait ’til only about 75 days are left to avoid severe delays in case of a quick processing, which happens quite a lot.
1) You submit an N-400 application. The cost is $ 680 and it should take about 4 months from start to finish. First comes biometrics, then interview and testing, and then the Oath of Allegiance.
2) You are not a citizen, so you have not become a citizen. You can become a citizen three years after the date in front of your Green Card where it reads: RESIDENT SINCE: xx/xx/2009.
3) The only needed proof is that you will submit the past 3 years’ worth of IRS tax transcripts. You can order them free of charge from the IRS. They are like tax returns, but much more condensed, and read like a Chinese math book.
Of all the hoops you had to jump through in your immigration journey, this is by far the easiest one.
