Question by thebestpear: ‘going green’ does the concept bother anyone?
what i mean, for those that understand the issues more deeply, does the idea of going green mock the true ideals of environmental stewardship? in some ways, i feel as though individuals believe that ‘green’ products or ideas are an easy choice in efforts to feel satisfied in their efforts to in fact be ‘green’. it bothers me that companies and market products as ‘green’ because they know the idea sells when in fact, the product is far from ‘green’ at all.
likewise, does anyone believe that the hype over global warming (i prefer, climate change) is far overdone in that it focuses on the what if’s and not a solution or current efforts?
please, share.
one of my professors has this idea to uncover greenwashing.. the same ideas as whitewashing but for environmental products.
i guess my meaning wasn’t clear. what i wanted to know was more along the lines of the disconnect between people and the environment and the struggle to maintain a connection through environmental deeds/products.
i’m nowhere near an environmentalist, but i choose to become educated the best i can.
check out my schools site, it’s a fantastic place to study.
