Green Building Green building by hand still costing more than expected?

Question by wolfsingleton: Green building by hand still costing more than expected?
Looking into Moladi, adobe, strawbale and various other options. I want to build green and completely off-grid (cheaper land) but I am having troubles getting a good method that can be hand done by my family on the CHEAP. Moladi seems the best, but the forms are supposedly kinda expensive. Any links, advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
Some have gotten the wrong impression in that I am a complete noob and uninformed. I researched adobe only before and was set on that until other options came my way. Already drew up plans for the adobe, but they are easily modified. Also, I am planning on an area where there are almost no building codes – so let the ideas fly!

Before you go any farther, do a search on “cord wood homes” and give them a thoughtful consideration. The are very attractive, can be built relatively inexpensively, and are very energy efficient. I understand you may not want to use tree wood to be “green” but the results of this kind of construction are less of an environmental impact than many other types of building. Look into it and consider it before you decide.
