This article by the Times, although they say “the Senate” killed a bill to charge royalties in 2009, it was really Mr. Harry Reid that said there will be no vote on this. He also killed a similar attempt in the 90′s to charge Gold and Silver Miners “their fare share” (4-8%), (which his party is prone to saying about any other business or rich person).
I need to point out that Oil that is drilled and removed from public lands pays royalties, I think it’s in the 12% range, as well as, State Taxes, and Federal Corporate Taxes. Oil also pays for the lease of the land they explore or drill on, sometimes in the 10′s of millions of dollars range.
The mining system is based on a claim system, get there first and claim it. No lease. No royalties. Just profit.
Please, be honest about why this is? Could it be that the state that Mr. Reid represents is a huge mining state? Could it be that he received $ 750,000 in campaign contributions from Nevada Miners in his very close 2010 election?
Why is it okay to tax Alaskan oil, through leases and royalties, but not Nevada Silver?
All I ask is a fair shake from the Party that constantly complains about what is fair.
Thanks for your time. I welcome people correcting any mis-quotes, mis-interpretations. I am here to learn and try to figure stuff out, I just want honest truth, whichever way it leans.
