Question by Tangerine: What is our best option living/visa/green card wise?
This might be a bit long..

To start.. I am American born and raised. My partner is Estonian born and raised with permanent residency in the UK (and two children in the UK as well) We met almost a year ago in London and lived together most of that time.

I had to leave the UK because I was student there but had to leave because 1) I graduated and 2) I couldn’t get a visa extension for something really minor, but that’s besides the point. Before I left, I found out that I was pregnant and stayed a few extra weeks to decide what to do before going back. We decided to keep the baby. Now, he lost his job right before I got pregnant and can’t really pay for much at the moment (he can’t get a new job without his passport as he needs to prove his right to work) but as he lost his job is having a hard time getting the money together. He is trying though.

I am living with my parents now who are not doing so well financially but want me to stay with them. I don’t have a drivers license as I left before I could get one (I am trying to get one now, but even so, I wont be able to take the test until I have my permit for x amount of months) so my work options here are limited (added on with the fact that I am pregnant)

We want to live together, but don’t know of the best options. I can’t get most visas to the UK at the moment due to work and the baby (I won’t have time to get my money together in time for my deadline for a Tier 1 work visa as a uk student graduate) and his options are a bit better to come to the USA, but we are afraid he might lose his permanent residency status in the UK which he doesn’t want to lose as our end goal is to end up there. We want to get married, but we want to wait until after the baby is born (beginning of April) and have it done properly… we truly want to be together and don’t want it to seem like we are doing it because of the baby. We thought about getting a fiance visa for him to come here, but we don’t know how long those are for and if he can work while on it. I know the one for the UK is usually 6 months but don’t know if they extend it for certain circumstances (such as us wanting to wait until after the baby and can get everything together)

He will be coming to visit before all of this, but we both really need to work on what we can do to get it all done asap because I don’t think I can do all of this on my own and I hate feeling like I am burdening my parents!

P.S. Please just provide advice.. I am not after any harsh judgments on anything and I know all the bad things about the situation already (I will also do my best to make up for it asap) and just really want someone who can guide me in the right direction with this… thank you! x
Oh, and I only just reread what I wrote.. what I meant about his passport is that he lost his before we even met and has a new one at his solicitors office but he needs to pay for it still. If it helps, this passport still states him as being an alien. He is thinking of applying for a British passport as well if a green card will mean him losing his permanent residency
Thanks for the advice so far…you are right that we don’t have much of a postion to do very much but at least we try!

FYI I don’t know if this means anything but although he is Estonian the country doesn’t recognize him as so and he is considered an alien even in Estonia.

I am closing this but if anyone has anything else they can add can just let me know privately! x
