Question by Modern Mountain Man: I need help finding the name of a certain tree or bush?
I’ve pointed out other bushes, because they were similar, but they were apparently rhododendrons, and I don’t think those were the ones.
I live in Oregon, so that might help.
They had oval shaped leaves that were slightly yellowish green, with a brownish leather surface on the bottom of them.
Please list as many you can think of that sound even vaguely like that.

There are some 800 species of Rhododendron with many growing indumentum (the leathery coat on the underside of leaves). Most of the rhododendrons you have seen in gardens are hybrids between a few species so their leaf types may be very dissimilar to wild species in the Cascades or in the coastal mountains.

Look at the related plants like the Kalmia as well as the Rhododendron species
