Question by Aly R.: What is the title of a children’s book about a scarlet or red door?
I know I read a book in elementary school that had something to do about a house with a scarlet or red door that was out of the ordinary. If anyone could help me with the title of this book it would be much appreciated! Thanks!

There is a book called “The Gammage Cup” by Carol Kendall which tells the story of a group of minipins who live in a very conformist society. Everyone’s door is green, their houses are thatched uniformly, and everyone wears the same color. When one of the “artistically inclined” minipins paints her door red, there is the beginnings of a revolt against the idea of what is “the correct” way to live. This is one of the most outstanding books I have ever read, and I recommend it for any child or parent. It is a very intelligent and humorous treatment of the issue of the value of the arts, conformity and treatment of people who are ‘different”. It is hard to find, but it is definitely worth the search.
