I live southwest of Austin, and so my favorite native plant nurseries are: Barton Springs Nursery on Bee Caves Rd. in Westlake; The Natural Gardner on Old Bee Caves Rd. in Oak Hill; and Texas Grown Plants off 290, west of the Y in Oak Hill. Barton Springs Nursery has a great selection of native and naturalizing plants at good prices, but it’s easy to miss when you are driving by. They will also try to find species that you request. The Natural Gardener also has an excellent assortment. Texas Grown Plants is the only nursery where I have ever seen TX Leather Flower (aka Scarlet Clematis). They were not selling them when I was there; they may have been growing them to collect seed for more plants.

Balsam Gourd produces a tomato-like fruit from a small yellow flower. Another vine, Passiflora foetida, produces similar red fruits from blue and white passion flowers, They both have similar leaves, and are occasionally confused. Passiflora foetida has a lacey tendril completely surrounding the green fruit. Below are links to pictures.

Question by Alyssa C: I was wondering what others thought of eco friendly product lines?
I was wondering what others thought of eco friendly product lines made from recycled materials like tires, and soda pop bottles? I get the feeling some people are really into it and other dont really care at all.

Green Living Nyc Q&A: How can I prove I've applied for my canadian passport?

Question by Jeremy B: How can I prove I’ve applied for my canadian passport?
I live in NYC, my canadian passport has expired, I’ve sent in my application however I’m travelling to the Dominican Republic in a month and should I not have my new passport by then I’ll need my green card, birth certificate and proof of a passport application. I’m not sure how I can prove I’ve applied for a passport. SO if anyones knows I’d be very thankful for an answer.

There are some exceptions that allow for “proof of passport application” for US Citizens, but I don’t know whether that exception extends to Canadian passport holders. I would double check that assumption. You may not be able to get back into the U.S.

If you confirm that proof of canadian passport application is going to be good enough, I would contact the canadian passport office and ask them.
